Excerpt #1

AvaLynn

I’m in the forest by the lake. Not the edge of the lake, where I usually ended up. So deep in the forest I didn’t recognize it. Feeling so scared, because it’s dark and I’m all alone. Having no shoes or socks on; every step I took hurt. Stepping on the forest floor, I felt every twig, pine needle and rock, nipping at the soles of my feet. I began walking and was still unsure of where I was going.

The night was eerie, and I wished Edward were here with me. He’s never in my dreams. Maybe I should try to find the lake, at least I’d have Eva there. I didn’t know which direction to go, so, I walked to my left. Finding myself really wishing I’d slept with shoes. Something cut me. There’s a sharp pain in my foot. I can’t see though; it’s too dark. I just kept walking. The more I walked, the more it hurt.

Hearing something moving in the distance; I stopped to get my bearings. I was never allowed out here as a child. As an adult I never felt the urge to wander in the forest. I was always pulled to the lake; I had a need to be by or in the water. I heard movement again, footsteps, but like Edward would have sounded with his large paws. I looked around. Then I saw them, a pair of glowing eyes; they were amber like a bright yellowish—orange combination. All I can see are the eyes.
